                  standard enthalpy,

      and (x) is that part of the standard enthalpy that is independent of

                 the polarizability of the interacting component.

Equation (27) is a primative model for predicting the magnitude of a distribution coefficient and, thus, solute retention. The equation needs, however, much more development and, eventually, functions that account for polar and ionic interactions must be included. Nevertheless, an interesting possible path to retention prediction has arisen from the straight forward themodynamic analysis of the retention properties of  some very simple compounds.
